I officially began my model career on QVC! I endured constant mockery for my "tomboy-ish" ways by models & stylists alike. They all tried to pigeon hole me into submission to be some Prissy, Pre Madonna, Debutante! Sure, I’d give it a try for awhile, but would always revert right back to who I really was...A Tomboy!
Where I’m from, being tough & being able to hold your own was typical. It did not make you any less of woman to be such. So what was the big deal?! My career had taken me very far, but I was always experiencing the overshadowing sneers of my model peers!
After years of trying to conform...I finally came to the realization that I was who I was! A girl who was just as comfortable in sweats & sneakers, as I was in dresses and Stilettos. THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT!!! It was a beautiful duality for me that just made sense. I am a Tomboy who knows and understands exactly how to be chic!
Hmmmm, that’s it...I am, “Tomboy Chic” I thought! I remember that day clearly.... it was The day that I’d finally come to the revelation and acceptance of my style of modeling as being Tomboy Chic!
Sure, Tyra Banks, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Shiffer, Linda Evangelista’s type of models were all extraordinary... but It was the fearless Teresa Lourenco, Naomi Campbell, Jordan Dunn, Omahyra Mota type that not only captivated their audiences, but they commanded their attention! After seeing them...I was sold! I dove myself into fully embracing every aspect of who I was and my contribution to the model world!
My style became known and accepted. Even being referred to as, ”The Lori”. I became highly requested by some of fashion's biggest names! Naeem Khan, Twiggy, Vince Camuto, Michael Kors, Betsey Johnson, Badgely Mischka to name a few. Even Super Model IMAN, “who hired me for years”...told me that I was, “Her Favorite”!
As a result of embracing who I really was as a person, and the success of my career as a fashion model... I proudly branded my style, “Tomboy Chic”! Later abbreviating the name, “Tomboy” to, “TBOY”....& changing the word, “Chic” to, “CHIQ” to best describe being...UNIQUE!
Voilá...TBOY CHIQ was Born!
